TALL OAKS LODGE — PHOTO GALLERY

The house is nestled among tall oaks, maples, and poplars on a 5-acre lot at an altitude of 1000 feet, in the foothills of Crawford's Knob. With more than a dozen rooms, you can choose between having company or privacy. There are plenty of outdoor gathering spaces, with two decks, a stone patio, a screened gazebo, and a fenced-in yard. If the weather turns cold, there are two stone fireplaces and a wood-burning stove, and a glass-enclosed solarium where you can pretend you are outside. There is central heat and air conditioning for year-round comfort.

Living in the valley means you are 20 minutes closer to all the area attractions: museums, historical sites, caverns, wineries, Charlottesville, and the University of Virginia. It also provides a greater sense of the solitude and serenity of mountain living, away from the increasingly crowded feeling of the Mountain Resort.

Exterior Views
This 5200 square-foot house is sited on a 5 acre lot at an elevation of 1000' on the side of Crawford's Knob. It adjoins the George Washington National Forest. The entrance to the house is just 2 steps above the parking area. A large part of the grounds is fenced. Outdoor features include a large, free-standing deck overlooking the valley, a side deck attached to the house, a small deck behind the Dining Room that leads to the patio and to a screened gazebo. Solar-powered lights illuminate the steps and paths after dark.

Living Room, Dining Room, & Solarium
The Living Room is furnished with a sumptuously comfortable couch and chair, creating an inviting conversation area. The couch faces the large stone fireplace. Two rocking club chairs and two suede ottomans provide additional seating. The Dining Room contains a trestle table that extends to seat 10. The Living Room opens to the Solarium through a wall of windows. The Solarium, accessed through the Dining Room, opens to the Side Deck via three large, screened sliding doors. Solarium seating includes two high-back rockers, and a wicker love seat and chair, accompanied by a wicker coffee table and side table.

Kitchen & Family Room
The Kitchen features granite counter tops and top-of-the-line appliances, including a Thermidor gas range and oven, Subzero refrigerator/freezer (with ice maker), Kitchen Aid microwave and dishwasher. It is fully equipped with every thing you might need to prepare a gourmet meal, including a Cuisinart food processor, a coffee maker, blender, and toaster. The Kitchen opens to the Family Room with a large breakfast bar and 4 wicker stools. The Family Room, equipped with a 20" TV is two steps down from the Kitchen. It features a love seat facing a large stone fireplace, teak doors and windows opening to the patio, and a large picture window. The Laundry Room, next to the Kitchen, contains a washer, dryer, and utility sink, and generous pantry shelving for your provisions.

Den
The Den provides a comfortable spot to sit and read or chat, basking in the warmth of a wood-burning stove. There is a stereo with AM-FM radio, cassette tape and CD player, and an auxilliary input for your iPod or MP3 player. And you never know what kind of reading material might be available on the bookshelves. There is also an overlook into the Living Room. A wall of windows provides seasonal views of the valley and year-round views of the patio, gazebo, and the National Forest behind the house

Master Bed Room (2nd Floor)
The huge Master Bed Room, located on the 2nd floor, features a vaulted ceiling, a king-sized bed, a dresser and an armoire, two comfortable chairs, a leather bench, and full length gilt mirror. The armoire also hides a small TV. Expansive windows on 3 sides of the room frame the leaves of the tall trees surrounding the house and provide a bird's eye view of the grounds. (There is also a small window on the fourth side of the room.) On cool days and nights, open windows are certain to catch a breeze, no matter which direction it is blowing. The air conditioning and ceiling fan ensure your comfort when the weather is less obliging. The Master Bath features a 2-person tub and large tile shower with a marble bench.

First Floor Bedroom
The 1st floor bedroom features a queen-sized bed with a brass headboard. There is also a comfortable rocking chair for reading or relaxing. A large walk-in closet has more than enough room to contain your belongings and a cheval mirror reflects your good looks. Windows open on two sides of the room: one overlooks the side deck and the other views the woods at the front of the house. A ceiling fan keeps the air moving. The attached bath is equipped with a stall shower.

Blue Bedroom (2nd Floor)
The Blue Bedroom (located on the 2nd floor) is, not surprisingly, decorated in comforting shades of blue. The queen-sized bed is extremely comfortable, as is the overstuffed chair reposing in one corner of the room. The room has a wall of windows facing North, and smaller exposure on the East, making this a bright morning room. It also has a ceiling fan to ensure good circulation. The attached bath features a glass-enclosed tub/shower illuminated by a skylight.

Twin Bed Room (Lower Level)
The Twin Bed Room features a pair of twin beds nestled in the lower level, directly below the First Floor Bedroom. Windows open onto the grounds facing the approach to the house. This room also contains a 24" TV with built-in VCR and connections for a video game console. In the summer time, this room is the coolest spot in the house.

Pentagon and TV Rooms
The Pentagon Room (named for its shape) houses a round oak table on which you can serve snacks or play games, facilitated by a removable game board that contains holders for drinks and poker chips on one side and a blackjack table on the other. Access to the Side Deck is through the Pentagon Room. The adjacent TV Room features a built in corner media cabinet containing a 27" TV and a VCR/DVD combination player. A love seat and large overstuffed chair and matching ottoman provide comfortable seating for viewing or conversing.

Play Room
The Play Room is a large space located above the double garage. It is accessible both from the hallway next to the Blue Bed Room and from its own staircase from the breezeway connecting the Garage to the Kitchen. The Game Room features a 46" TV, with VCR and DVD players, and a front-panel connection for video game consoles. Bookcases are loaded with videos and board/card games for hours of family entertainment. There is also a foosball table for soccer enthusiasts, and a table for assembling jigsaw puzzles or playing games. The room also contains a queen-sized sofa-bed for watching TV or providing additional sleeping accomodations. The space between the hallway and the Play Room provides a wooden doll house, rocking horse, and small rocking chair for the pleasure of smaller children.

Floor Plans
Floor plans show the unique arrangement of rooms and spaces that permit groups to gather together while providing space to be apart.

Lake Monocan & Area Views
Lake Monocan, just 5 minutes away, provides a variety of family-oriented activities, including a sand beach for swimming, tree-shaded benches for picnics, rental bikes for exploring the the Lake areas and other parts of Stoney Creek, and rental boats of several types (paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats). Fishing is also allowed in the Lake (as well as many other smaller ponds around the resort) and equipment can be rented at the Lake. The Lake also features a snack bar and facilities for a variety of other family activities.
